Boost Your Metabolism

If you are one of those individuals who have a hard time losing weight, and are envious of those slender souls who seem to shed kilograms as easily as a snake, the good news is that you have the ability to boost your metabolism. Metabolism is the number of calories that you burn at any given moment. Your metabolism burns more calories while you are active than when you are at rest.

Believe it or not, you're not stuck. There are things you can do to raise your metabolism and have the body of your dreams.

I recommend four steps to rev up your metabolism:

1. Do resistance training. Weightlifting helps you burn more muscle. Since muscles burn more calories than fat, weight training will speed up your metabolism.

2. Eat more often. By eating more frequently, you will be spreading your calories between five to six meals a day. Instead of being stored as fat, these calories will be used for energy. You will also be stabilising your blood sugar levels.

3. Do cardio work. This helps you speed up your metabolism and burn calories. You should be training in your target heart rate. This is how you calculate it:

220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.6, equals your lower limit

220 minus your age, multiplied by 0.8, equals your upper limit

4. Take stimulants. Consume (in proportion) coffee, or anything that contains ma-huang, caffeine and aspirin. Theses three together make a dynamite stimulant. Stimulants boost your metabolism, but the downside is that they're only a temporary fix because your body adapts to them.
